Dr. Douglas Matzner

Clinical Director

At four years old, I knew I was going to grow up to be a doctor.
I was heavily influenced by my father, who insisted on proper nutrition as well as living life filled with passion, intention, and a commitment to knowledge. As acupuncture’s impact grew in the U.S. in the 1970’s, I really felt pulled towards a medical profession that would help people and communities lose weight, achieve better health, and reduce health care costs.
I opened Matzner Clinic in the early 1980’s and today I am a licensed chiropractic physician and patient’s rights advocate who is passionate about helping my patients with weight loss, maintenance, and stabilization. I’m also dedicated to driving overall community health and wellness and reducing health care costs for individuals and businesses.
Dr. Doug Matzner's Credentials
  • Vice Chair – Illinois Medical Licensing Board
  • Member - Medical Advisory Board, Ideal Protein of North America
  • Board Certified – National Board of Chiropractic Examiners
  • Fellow – International Academy of Clinical Acupuncture
  • Past President - Illinois Chiropractic Society
  • Illinois Chiropractic Physician of the Year – 2010
At Matzner Clinic, I focus on safe, effective, and sustainable weight loss. I am a firm believer in finding and addressing the root sources of problems rather than just treating symptoms. Using the science-backed and FDA-labeled Ideal Protein protocol, my team helps those seeking to lose weight, get in shape, and live healthier find their path to balanced eating, exercise, and more holistic body health.
Since incorporating the Ideal Protein protocol into my work nearly a decade ago, I have helped nearly 2,000 Champaign-Urbana residents lose hundreds of thousands of pounds.
I’m proud to have been dedicated to improving the quality of life for every person who not only walks through the front door of my clinic, but for everyone across the Champaign County community, for over 35 years.

Beth Colla, RN

Personal Nutrition Coach

Hi, I’m Beth. And I’ve been where you are.
I was introduced to Matzner Clinic’s JumpStart Weight Loss program as a patient myself. After unsuccessful tries with other programs, I came through the doors at Matzner.
In my first 2 months, I lost 27 pounds. I not only felt much better, my health markedly improved with my good cholesterol climbing and my bad cholesterol dropping significantly. I was improving so much that my physician even asked me about the program I was on.
I know all about the challenges of weight loss and lifestyle changes. I also know firsthand that the JumpStart program really works – quickly and reliably.
Today I am proud to not only be one of Matzner’s JumpStart success stories, but now a JumpStart team member as a Personal Nutrition Coach. I’m honored to be a part of a scientifically-based program that really works and one that is focused on keeping weight lost off forever.
To my work with the JumpStart team, I bring background as a Registered Nurse, a Critical Care Registered Nurse, and a certification in Dermatology Nursing. I also have a degree in Culinary Sciences and I love cooking. I have a real passion for patient care, and more importantly, patient education. I bring that same passion to my work with you at JumpStart!
I know my wellness journey isn’t over yet, but I do know I can see the end. And it feels good. I wish the same for you!

Misty Richardson

Personal Nutrition Coach

When she was just 30 years old, the unthinkable happened to Misty Richardson.
With three young children under the age of 12 at home, Misty suffered a stroke. It was a scary and difficult ordeal, but it’s one that she credits for changing her life in some very positive ways/
“It drove me to realize I needed to do better – for myself and for my kids. I chose to be a better role model by understanding what we put in our mouths and how we treat our bodies.”
Today Misty is a personal trainer and holistic nutritional coach specializing in the needs of women.
“Ninety-nine percent of my clients are women. I really want to be a role model for them – to lift women up.”.
The Decatur-native carries a number of certifications, including as a Certified Personal Trainer (2013), a Golf Fitness Specialist (015), and a Women's Fitness Specialist (2015), all from the National Academy of Sports Medicine, or NASM. She also carries a Holistic Nutritional Coach Certification through New York’s Institute for Integrated Nutrition and is a Level 1 Coach through CrossFit.
Misty is pleased to add her specialties and interests to the JumpStart team. “Everyone here at the Clinic brings such unique qualities and different backgrounds. It really makes this place a wonderful asset to those in the Champaign-Urbana region looking for holistic weight loss and health improvement options.”
In her free time, this healthy mother of three (and grandmother to one) enjoys competing in strength training competitions.
